Death, hubris, and the unfathomable dread of outer space. Welcome to the twisted worlds of Bloody Colony. Tales of science fiction horror from the future of space exploration.
This chilling sci-fi book series reveals the consequences of unbridled human expansion through twenty harrowing tales spanning three centuries and thirty light-years.
From brutal alien encounters to impossible choices, these stories take you on a journey through the darkest corners of human nature and out into the savagery of the unknown. But be warned — the worlds of Bloody Colony are a labyrinth of horror, and once you enter, the nerve-racking sounds and terrifying sights will trap you forever.
With powerful imagery and shocking twists at every turn, Bloody Colony is a must-read for fans of sci-fi horror. If you enjoy “Black Mirror”, “The Expanse”, or “The Twilight Zone”, you’ll love the unexpected tales of Bloody Colony. Be prepared to enter a universe of fear that will haunt you long after you turn the last page.
The series charts a fictional future of human colonisation. From the driving forces on Earth that propel humankind into space, to life on the savage outer colonies, each story contributes to the mosaic of human advancement.
A major theme across the stories is the egotism and hubris we, as humans, exhibit. Whatever the horrors lurk in the depths of space, we all too often make things worse for ourselves.
Another important theme is how we might encounter alien life. In Bloody Colony, aliens are almost entirely hostile. The writer takes the view that as humanity spreads, we will be considered, by any race we encounter as an invasive species, and aliens will react accordingly.

| Interview Questions and Answers
What inspired you to write these books?
The colonisation of space by humans is a certainty; we will conquer the stars. The problem is, as we venture into the unknown, we must also take the worst aspects of humanity with us; our greed, vanity, arrogance, and depravity. I wanted to explore this, but needed several stories to do so.
What was the most challenging aspect of the writing process?
The biggest challenge was keeping the large mythology consistent, and ensuring the vast timeline makes complete sense.
What surprised you the most during the writing process?
Despite all the terrible things that happen to my adventurous characters, there is I believe, a steely resolve innate to the human race. We will overcome the dangers and explore space, and hopefully the best parts of us will prevail.
What are the hardest scenes to write?
The most difficult parts to write are always the death scenes. Not because they are technically challenging, but because I have to say goodbye to the character. I get attached to my characters, and it can be sad to let them go.

TRIVIA
The fictional space station, Priam, is located at the Earth-Moon Lagrange point five. The Vigil mission spacecraft, operated by the European Space Agency, is currently monitoring space weather at Lagrange point five. Lagrange points provide cosy homes for many space missions, including the James Webb Space Telescope, which is at Lagrange point two.
QUOTES
Legatus Ska-Gat-Arn: “These humans riot like rutting vermin on the first day of spring, seeking only to spread, consume and destroy. They have no fidelity; capable of treachery even when it will undoubtably result in the extinction of millions of their own kind. Cutting them down is a mercy to the universe.”
GOOFS
In the story “Phobos Dawn”, Lita secures a transit pod to the surface of the moon to prevent it from floating away. However, although the gravity on Phobos is very weak, the pod would not just float away.

QUOTES
Edward Shockley: “Just like the others, I thought it free will. We learned too late, and I accept no responsibility for this whatsoever. Once anyone places a hand within the frame, all notions of self-determination become subject to a kind of superimposition. In there, in that indescribable hell, decisions are based on outcomes, not the other way around.”

The eBook and paperback versions include a glossary, which allows readers to delve even further into the mystique and wonderment of “Bloody Colony”.

Bloody Colony: Horror Among the Stars
Tales of science fiction horror from the future of space exploration
A Universe of Fear
Space is vast, cold, and indifferent. In the Bloody Colony series, it is also grotesque, treacherous, and terrifyingly human. Across four volumes — Buried Dogs Don't Bark, Beyond the Barycentre, Exploding Head Syndrome, and The Amoral Imperative — readers are taken on a journey through three centuries of colonisation gone wrong. With stories that twist like a knife and imagery that burns itself into the mind, this is science fiction horror at its most uncompromising.
“The further humanity reaches, the deeper its shadows become.”
Buried Dogs Don't Bark – Dark Beginnings
The first volume sets the tone with six unforgettable stories of hubris, deceit, and the dreadful cost of exploration. Inspector Burr Lagerfelt’s noir-soaked investigation in Buried Dogs Don’t Bark feels like Blade Runner reimagined as a horror puzzle. Meanwhile, Dinner at the Roosevelt plays with time and causality in a manner that would make Philip K. Dick shiver.
Whether it’s the stranded crew of the luxury colony ship in Random Vector or the tense race for survival on Mars in Rivers of Oxia Palus, every tale ends with the reader jolted, unsettled, and hungry for more.
Beyond the Barycentre – Madness and Revelation
Where the first book delivers tight shocks, the second expands outward with three longer, more ambitious tales. Bloodshot immerses us in paranoia aboard Priam Station, its corridors dripping with tension and dread. Phobos Dawn descends into archaeological horror on Mars, opening a door best left sealed. Finally, the titular novella reveals the dangers of inter-colony rivalry, as pride and vanity spiral into cosmic catastrophe.
“Technology is no shield against ignorance.”
Exploding Head Syndrome – Gore and Irony
Volume three is the series at its most visceral. From the gruesome title story—where contagion makes skulls burst without warning—to the predator-prey nightmare of Flowers of Cardinal and Violet, the collection delivers raw, shocking imagery. Yet, beneath the blood, there is biting satire: stories such as The Green-Eyed Monster question the nature of human cruelty just as much as alien savagery.
The Amoral Imperative – Humanity Unmasked
The final book (so far) peels back the last illusions of civilisation. Death by Murder presents a chilling frontier justice system where every crime leads to execution. Barton’s Wager exposes the perils of addiction even as colonists race for survival. And Zombulance delivers a ferocious, street-level horror story where paramedics hold the line against an undead horde.
The result is a crescendo of moral corruption, showing that the true monsters of colonisation may not be aliens at all — but us.
Why Bloody Colony Matters
What makes this series extraordinary is its blend of pulp thrills with literary depth. The gore is vivid, the scares relentless, but behind every scream lies a question: What happens when human ambition outruns human morality? Fans of Black Mirror, The Twilight Zone, and The Expanse will feel right at home, yet this is no imitation.
“Once you enter, the nerve-racking sounds and terrifying sights will trap you forever.”
Verdict: Bloody Colony is not just a book series. It is a warning, a vision, and a challenge — forcing us to look into the dark heart of space and recognise ourselves staring back..

"The mortal sins of humankind are not xenophobia, or malignant envy, or a feral propensity to violence, as bad as those things are, but the notion of sacrifice as a choice, or a currency to be bartered."
"The nature of revenge is, by definition, the taking of everything. It is an absolute, a decanting of something into nothing. Whatever that thing is, though, cannot quench you, for there is not a drop left."
Issac Grey Lambert is optimistic about the future, and fiction allows us to think through the ramifications of our collective actions before we get there.
